Amelia (Ameliarita) Cubero Rosales, age 73 of Clifton, NJ, passed away on January 16th, 2020 in Cebu, Philippines. A devoted mother-figure to many and a fearless adventurer, she was doing what she loved: traveling and spending time with family.
Born on July 18th, 1946 in Calape, Bohol, Philippines — Amelia was the second daughter of ten children of Mayolo and Cristeta Cubero. She married Armando Rosales on Valentine’s Day in 1969, and they immigrated to the United States that same year. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and auntie to many, Amelia is survived by her husband; her son, Armand and his girlfriend Alice; her daughter, Armmel Kane and son-in-law, RJ, and grandchildren Jessica, Karina, and Donovan; her brother Mayolo Jr (Dodong), sister-in-law Marjo; her sister Nor and spouse Maria Fe; her sister Marina; her sister Tatta, brother-in-law Michael; her sister Gel, brother-in-law Nick; her sister Rita, brother-in-law Manny; her brother-in-law Arnulfo; her sister-in-law Nina. Many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in the U.S., Philippines, and around the world, knew her affectionately as “Lola Ate Mely.” She is preceded in death by her mother, father, sisters - Leonora and Lourdes, and brother Nash Sr.
A graduate of Bohol Provincial School of Nursing, Class of 1967, Amelia worked as a nurse for nearly 30 years, and later started and ran her own business for many years. She devoted herself humbly and generously to her family and to her church, played tennis at the regional championship level, read avidly on economics and politics, accrued a social media following, and tended diligently to her garden of roses and hydrangeas.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at 11:30AM at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton, NJ 07013. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Amelia's memory.
