Gennaro Vangieri

Gennaro Vangieri, 93, of Clifton, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024. Born in San Giorgio, Albanese, Cosenza, Italy, Mr. Vangieri lived in Vacarizzo.  He was drafted in the Italian Army and honorably served his time with them. While living in Italy, he was always involved with agriculture and farming which included tending to olive trees. In 1968, Mr. Vangieri legally immigrated to the United States with his family in search of a better life. He initially settled in Passaic before moving to Clifton 56 years ago. Mr. Vangieri loved living in the United States and was proud to display his American flag at his home.

Before his retirement, he was employed in the Maintenance Department of the Passaic Valley Water Commission in Little Falls. Prior employment was with Bright Star Industries in Clifton.

Mr. Vangieri loved his family and good food. He was known for his vegetable garden in his backyard and making his own wine in his basement. He was generally a happy person and enjoyed singing, especially in his later years. As a faithful person, he was a parishioner of St. Paul R.C. Church in Clifton.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maria (nee Barca) Vangieri in 2021; his son-in-law, John Collins in 2022; and his brothers and sisters.

Survivors include: two daughters, Franca Collins and Rosina Uscinski and her husband, Thomas; three grandchildren, Gerald Collins (Erica), Zachary Uscinski (Cassie) and Kaitlyn Uscinski and her fiancé Walter Werner; and three great-grandchildren, Georgia Collins, Jaxon Collins and Cameron Collins.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 9:15 am from the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. Paul R.C. Church, 124 Union Avenue, Clifton. Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
