George Poydinecz, 92, died peacefully in his sleep on February 12, 2021. He was born on April 4, 1928, in Clifton, New Jersey, the son of John and Mary Poydinecz.
George attended Clifton High School and married his high school sweetheart, Rosalie, in 1951. They spent over sixty years together and are survived by their three daughters; Donna, Karen, and Lynn. Surviving in addition to his three daughters, are six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. George was predeceased by his wife, Rosalie; his brothers, John Jr. and Michael; and his parents, John and Mary.
George was drafted by the NY Giants from high school. He hit .300 his first year in professional baseball despite being the youngest player on the team at age 17. He also hit 5 HR the next year. In 2000, he was selected to the Clifton High School All-Century Baseball Team. His determination and skill on the baseball field was matched in his professional life and personal life.
George had an impressive professional career in all facets of the real estate industry spanning from New Jersey to Florida. A competitor by nature, George worked tirelessly his entire life, starting at a very early age, and he did it all for his family.
George was a member of Essex Fells Country Club where he served as President for two terms (8 years). He was a member of John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, Florida, where he lived. He was a seasoned golfer who had two double-eagles and seven holes-in-one, an impressive card player, and a gifted story-teller.
Lovingly known as PopPop, George Poydinecz’ legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who will forever aspire to meet the standard of excellence he set throughout his entire life. Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. A man who told his stories so many times, he’s now become the story. He will forever live so largely in our hearts.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 am Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the family plot at St. Michael Cemetery, 120 Saddle River Road, South Hackensack, NJ.
