Gerardo G. Gonzales, 74, of Clifton passed away on January 16, 2021.
Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Gerry, or ‘Ding’ as he was mostly known as with those close to him, came to the United States in 1980, living initially in New York City and then Jersey City before moving to Clifton in 2000 and residing there since. Prior to retiring in 2012, he had been employed as a Machine Operator with Acro Photo in New York City for twenty-six years. He was a very hard-working, free-spirited, and selfless person who always prioritized his family above all else. He especially loved family gatherings and would always be the life of the party, whether it was talking up a storm full of stories or kick-starting the event with a karaoke song to Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ or The Righteous Brothers’ ‘Unchained Melody’. He also had a passion for cooking and a love for seafood, but would occasionally enjoy having a burger and fries. He loved going on walks with the family dog, Winston, and playing peek-a-boo with his granddaughter. Lastly, just like many others, loved to play the lotteries in hopes of cashing it big one day and donating his winnings to family and the church. Many would think he lived a very simple life, but he had always said it was a very fulfilling one that turned out even better than he would have ever known.
Gerry was predeceased by his dearly missed parents, Antonio and Rosario (nee Galvan) Gonzales; his beloved sister, Violeta Gonzales; and his dear brothers: Antonio Gonzales Jr., Jose Gonzales, Jesus Gonzales, and Ramon Gonzales.
He is survived by his devoted wife of thirty-five years, Jocelyn (nee Abraham) Gonzales, of Clifton: by his two loved and devoted children: Anthony Gonzales of Clifton and Samantha Argente and her husband, Mark, of Edison; two dear brothers: Anthony Gonzales of Jersey City and Ernesto Gonzales of the Philippines; and by his cherished granddaughter, Layla Argente.
