Helen (Fabian) Tokar

Helen (Fabian) Tokar of Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, New Jersey passed away on May 18, 2022 at the age of 98. She confronted life with antique courage and death with the hope of her devout Christian faith, supported by a family she inspired.  Mrs. Tokar was born in Passaic, NJ on March 26,1924 and was the daughter of Anna (Hrina) and Andrew Fabian. She lived with her beloved late husband Edward T. Tokar, Sr. (1987) in Garfield, where she raised her family, and then Clifton until his passing. Prior to her retirement in 1989, she was employed for 24 years by PNC Bank in Passaic.

Helen Tokar is survived by her dearest son, Edward T. Tokar (Jr.) and wife Frances of Summit, NJ., and dearest daughter Patricia (Tokar) Kestin of Los Angeles, Calif. Precious and cherished grandmother of Adam Edward Tokar and wife Marissa of Massapequa, NY, Sam Tokar Kestin and Olivia Kestin of Los Angeles, Calif. Much loved Great Grandmother of Adryanna M. Tokar. Two dear brothers, Stephen Fabian (wife Dorothy deceased) of Pompton Plains, and John Fabian and wife Joyce of Oradell, NJ. Her dear sister Margaret Brizek passed in 2021.

She is survived by her adored nieces and nephews; JoAnn and husband Louis LaTerra of Oneida, NY, Steven Brizek and wife Ida of North Haledon, NJ, Stephen Fabian and wife Debbi of Henderson, NC, Daria and husband Max Linnington of Ridgewood, NJ, and Allison and husband Eric Derfner of Princeton, NJ. Her dear late nephews Bradley Fabian passed in 1966 and Andrew Fabian in 2019.

Also surviving are loving great nieces and nephews; Tracey and husband Joseph Widmer, Vincent and wife Christina Laterra, Aiden and Cameron Linnington, Brad and James Derfner. Along with fond great, great nieces and nephews; Amanda, Joseph and Amber Widmer, and MaryJo LaTerra.

Helen enjoyed reading, following current events, watching Fox News, the business channels and especially her sports teams - the NY Yankees and NY Giants. Greatly missed will be her friends, doctors and staff at Cedar Crest that she often mentioned with fondness.

Early in life she always thought of becoming a teacher, but financial and family circumstances proved otherwise. Nonetheless, following her beloved husband's death, she personally awarded over seventy college scholarships in his name to Garfield High School students where he was employed. At age 95 she toured the College of William & Mary Business School in Williamsburg, Va. to view the Edward T. Tokar Graduate Wing which was dedicated in her honor and that of her deceased husband.

Visitation will be held at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home located at 1313 Van Houten Ave, Clifton, NJ from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m on May 25, 2022.  A funeral Mass will be held thereafter at St. Mary's Assumption RC Church, 63 Monroe St., Passaic, NJ. Following the funeral Mass interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1 Outwater Lane, Saddle Brook, NJ.
