Robert Makri Obituary

Robert "Bob" Hazbi Makri, 91, of Roseland passed away on July 31, 2020.

Born on October 12, 1928 in Paterson, New Jersey to Louis "Hazbi" Makri and Marie (nee Reus) Makri, Bob grew up in the Athenia section of Clifton, New Jersey. He attended the Clifton public school system (#13 and Clifton High School) and was a devoted member and altar boy of Saint John Kanty RC Parish. He served in the US Army (82nd Airborne: 101 First Division as a Master Sergeant) in World War II and his division liberated Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Bob served in Berlin and in the beginning of the Korean Conflict. He then attended the University of Berlin and received his degree in fabrication engineering from NYU. He worked at Major Car Corporation, Clifton, NJ from 1955-1972 and then at American Car & Foundry in St. Louis, Missouri from 1973-1988 as a Plant Manager. He retired to Kresgeville, PA in 1998 and lived there happily until last year. He then moved to Roseland, NJ where he resided until his passing with his daughter and her family.

Bob was married to his beloved wife Irene Rose (nee Paflitzko) Makri for sixty-eight years. He is survived by his devoted family: wife Irene, daughter Denise Makri-Werzen, grandchildren: Shannon Leigh Werzen, William Robert Werzen and Lauraleigh Ashley Werzen, his Godson Derek Makri, SR. and numerous nieces and nephews, including Ronald Zuka from Newark, Delaware.He was predeceased by his loving brother Jack Merit Makri and his parents Louis and Marie.

He was a devoted compassionate family man, friend and humanitarian and will never be forgotten. Bib will live in their hearts and souls for eternity.
