Violet A. Carisi (nee Crudele) “Nonna”, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, was called to Heaven on October 2, 2021. Born on September 11, 1934 in Clifton, NJ to Domenic and Rose (nee Piazza) Crudele. Violet grew up in a very happy household with her brother, Louis, and her three sisters, Emily, Josie, and Claire. She, from a very young age, lived a full life. Violet loved to sing, dance and go to the opera with her father. She loved music and enjoyed listening to songs from the many operas they attended.
Violet met her husband Vincenzo (Enzo) and they married in 1960. Enzo, as an immigrant from Italy, found a perfect match in Violet’s Italian background. They opened their business, The Roman Sandal, in 1964, the same year their only daughter Catherine (Caterina) was born.
Violet personified the motto; work hard play hard. After working long hours in the family business, she would come home to make great meals and entertain family and friends. She became an excellent cook and could move around a kitchen like a master chef. Her greatest love in life was her two grandchildren, Alexander and Andrew Roccamo. After her husband’s untimely death in 2001, she dedicated herself to her family and grandchildren. Meals, parties, vacations were all with Nonna. She was the nucleus of her family’s everyday life.
Violet loved listening to the Catholic Mass all day long. She prepared recipes suggested by Father Jim. She adored praying the rosary many times a day. It was not uncommon for someone to call her to pray for a sick family member or friend. Her prayer lists became so long she needed to keep a chart. Violet said that she only prayed for others and never for herself. She was selfless, generous, and kind.
Violet lived her life completely dedicated to her daughter and her grandchildren. She was always happy to make dinner, a sandwich for Andrew, or share a 3:00 am snack with Alexander. The way she lived her life should be a guide for all.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vincenzo; her parents, Domenic and Rose (nee Piazza) Crudele; her brother, Louis Crudele; and two sisters, Emily Wunder and Josephine Graziano.
Survivors include; her daughter, Catherine Carisi Roccamo and her husband, Peter J. Roccamo; two grandsons, Alexander and Andrew Roccamo; her sister, Claire Macaluso; and her great-grand dog, Buddy.
