Andrea La Placa, 72, of Clifton, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Born in Paterson, Andrea was a lifelong resident of Clifton. She held Bachelor's and Master’s degrees from Montclair State University. Prior to her retirement in 2011, Andrea had been employed as a School Social Worker with Passaic Valley High School for 30 years. She formerly taught Spanish and French for eight years.
Andrea was a member of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), the National Social Workers Association, the New Jersey Association of School Social Workers and the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors.
She had a passion for cultural pursuits and maintained an avid interest in opera, ballet, theater and fine arts. Andrea fulfilled her lifelong dream of global travel through extensive worldwide trips.
Andrea was predeceased by her beloved parents, Joseph and Eleanor (nee Valenti) La Placa, her dear brother Peter La Placa, and her close companion, friend and cousin Arlene Mauri.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kevin Barrett of Clifton; by her step-daughters, Leah Barrett Demers and Maura Barrett; and by her cousin Arlene’s children: Joseph Mauri, Stephen Mauri and Todd Coldiron and his wife Carmen (nee Rivera) and their twin sons Sean and Thomas.
Visiting will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10:15 am at the funeral home with mass to follow at 11:00 am at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa.
