Constance (Ryan) Spencer

Constance Spencer a long time resident of Clifton passed away on February 5 at the age of 101.

Connie, the only child of Leona and Cornelius Ryan, was born in Sayre, PA on December 4, 1923.  She grew up in Waverly, NY where she met her future husband, Frederick Spencer.  After she graduated from Elmira College at the top of her class and Fred returned from serving in WWII, they were married.  Soon after, Fred started a career with NJ Bell and they moved to NJ eventually settling in Clifton.

Connie is survived by daughters JoAnn Urso (Tom) and Mary Ellen Spencer as well as three granddaughters and three great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years.

She loved volunteering at the Allwood Branch of the Clifton Library and was rarely without her latest stack of books needing to be read.  When she wasn’t reading she could be found working on her jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, needlepoint or knitting projects and brushing up on her bridge.  She was a member of The Woman’s Club of Allwood, League of Women Voters and St. Andrew the Apostle R.C. Church.

Connie will be greatly missed and we are grateful that she was with us for so many years.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 18th from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton with services to follow beginning with a prayer at 1:00pm followed by a funeral mass at 1:30pm at St. Andrew the Apostle RC Church, 400 Mt. Prospect Avenue, Clifton. Private cremation to follow.
