Cornelius Flaherty, 83, of Whiting, NJ passed away on Saturday October 5th, 2024.
Born and raised in Tipperary, Ireland, Mr. Flaherty moved to England at age sixteen and lived there until he was twenty-one when he came to the United States and settled in with his brothers in the Bronx, NY. After marriage, Cornelius and his wife continued living in the Bronx before then moving upstate where they lived for many years. More recently they have been living in Whiting. Mr. Flaherty was employed as a union carpenter throughout his career and in spare time, enjoyed playing music and singing, both as a hobby as well as professionally, and was skilled at carving and making jewelry. He had a deep interest in studying history but when it truly came to unwind, fishing was the answer….he loved to fish. In addition, he was a faithful member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed attending mass at St. Anthony of Padua Oratory in West Orange.
Mr. Flaherty was predeceased by his dearly missed parents: John and Bridget (nee Fitzgerald) Flaherty as well as by two dear brothers: James and Brendan Flaherty.
His is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa (nee Cunningham) Flaherty, of Whiting; four loving and devoted children: Brendan Flaherty of Ringwood, Siobain Flaherty Rogers and her husband, Daniel, of Blairstown, Deirdre Stadtmauer and her husband, Steven, of West Orange and Neil Flaherty and his wife, Maryellen, of Montclair; four dear siblings: Eddie and Sean Flaherty, both of Ireland, Dennis Flaherty of Illinois and Peggy Nethaway of Dublin, Ireland; and by his six cherished grandchildren: Riley Rogers, Fiona Rogers, Ronan Rogers, Luke Stadtmauer, Colm Flaherty and Brigid Stadtmauer.
