Dennis Benigno Obituary

Dennis John “DJ” Benigno, 55, of Clifton, passed away January 29, 2024. Born in Passaic, Dennis was a resident of Clifton for all of his life. He attended Christopher Columbus Junior High School in Clifton where he played football before being struck by a car as a pedestrian. The course of his life was altered after suffering a traumatic brain injury. He was cared for by his loving parents and family for 40 years. Dennis’ injury was the impetus for his parents to create the Coalition for Brain Injury Research, a charitable foundation. All money raised supports advanced neuroscience programs at various universities such as Rutgers University and University of Texas.

Survivors include: his devoted parents, Dennis and Rosalind (nee D’Amico) Benigno; his dear sister, Kim Lyons and her husband, William; two nephews, Ethan Michael Lyons and Jack Henry Lyons; his aunt and uncle, Diane and Stephen  LoIacono; his uncle John Benigno and his wife Betty; his cousins, Dana Regan (Robert), Diane Olear (Conrad) and Stephanie Perrelli (Michael) and their children.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Brendan R.C. Church, cor. Lakeview and Crooks Avenues, Clifton. Everyone is welcome to come at 9:30 am to have time to pay their respects to the family. Interment of ashes will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Coalition for Brain Injury Research, 270 Hazel Street, Clifton, NJ 07011.
