Hookset, NH – Donald Edgar Broseman, a retired educator and real estate appraiser, died September 10, 2024 at his home. He was six weeks from his 89th birthday.
Don was born October 22, 1935 in Clifton, New Jersey and raised in Paterson, amidst a large group of relatives, especially on his mother’s side. He was a US Army veteran. Attending Rutgers University and Paterson State College, he earned bachelor’s (1957) and master’s (1963) degrees in education. He had over 20 years in elementary education, most notably serving as Administrative Principal at the Mine Hill Elementary School system in Morris County, New Jersey. Later, he was a real estate agent, primarily with Schlott Realtors, and also received his certification as a real estate appraiser. Don also volunteered locally, helping an elderly resident of Wayne with grocery shopping and other services. He was a man of great intellect, as well as culinary expertise.
Don and his first wife, Mary Anne, had two children, Donald Clifton and Lynne Mary. He later married the late Marjorie Jane Zug on December 6, 1969, and they lived together in Wayne, NJ for 51 years until February 2021, when they moved to Hookset, New Hampshire to be closer to Marjorie’s daughter, Mary McCluskey and her husband, George. During their many years together, Don and Marge enjoyed extensive travels to England, Scotland, the Holy Land, and Alaska, as well as frequent trips to New England, Florida, and Texas to visit family.
Family was very important to Don and he was proud to have so many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed taking family out to dinner for special occasions. Don was very happy in his New Hampshire home, making regular stops to nearby shops and his favorite local grocery stores. He was an avid reader and had an excellent memory, which added to his expertise on thousands of years in military history. Don also enjoyed crime and military dramas. The family knows that Don would have been very pleased to have passed away at home, even though it was sooner than they all expected.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his father, Donald Clifton Broseman in December 1983 and his mother, Lillian Mazzarone Broseman in June 1993; his wife, Marjorie Jane Zug Broseman in 2021; two step-sons, John Clifford Rowbottom and Robert James Rowbottom; and by his lifelong and best friend, Jack Downey.
Don is survived by his son, Donald Broseman and his wife Robin; his daughter, Lynne Thompson and her husband Samuel; step-son Michael Rowbottom and his wife Sharon; step-daughter, Mary McCluskey and her husband George; grandchildren, Isaiah Thompson and his wife Mariah, Johanna Daniel and her husband Joseph, Mary Grace Thompson, and Theresa Thompson, and Hannah Garner and her husband Mason, Luke Broseman, and Seth Broseman; step-grandchildren, Michael Rowbottom, Heather Gipson and her husband Jonathan, Alexandra McCluskey, and Robert McCluskey; great-grandchildren Sebastion and Benjamin Thompson; step-great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Reagan, Jacob, and Savannah Gipson.
