Dorothy “Dot” Kraus 83, of Newtown, PA passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday November 30th, 2023.
Dorothy, born in Passaic, spent her early years in East Paterson. Following graduation from East Rutherford High School, she entered the nursing program at Passaic General Hospital with affiliation at Fairleigh Dickinson University. After passing State Boards, she was employed as an RN at Passaic General Hospital, and later at Perth Amboy Hospital, then Muhlenberg Hospital. After marriage, she and husband Bill moved to Carteret then Plainfield, Cincinnati and Martinsville before settling in Newtown.
Dorothy was a faithful parishioner of Ukrainian Orthodox Holy Ascension Cathedral in Clifton. With her husband, she travelled extensively visiting many countries around the world including all of Western Europe and most of Eastern Europe including four trips to Ukraine, numerous countries in Asia and South America. But it was the family trips to Jamaica or the time on LBI with her children and grandchildren she cherished. Her favorite season was Christmas which concluded with an extended family gathering to celebrate Ukrainian Christmas Eve, January 6th. She loved preparing the twelve meatless dishes, sometimes for as many as 40 family and friends.
Dorothy was predeceased by her mother Ann and stepfather Walter Baran.
She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-one years, William Kraus, her loving children, Dr. William Kraus and his wife, Jennifer, of Flemington, NJ and Pamela Kraus and her husband, Robert Kulla, of Fort Washington, PA; her dear sister, Joanne Panasiuk of Mt. Pocono, PA. Eight cherished grandchildren to whom she was their “Baba”: James Kraus and his wife, Erin and their son Cody, Steven Kraus, Emily Kraus, Melissa Kraus, Devin Kulla and her husband Christopher Corkadel and their daughter Cora, Michelle Kulla and her husband Erich Miskewicz and their two daughters Edythe and Tabitha, Kate Kulla and Max Kulla.
