Elaine Sanford Hayes

Elaine Sanford Hayes, 88, of Clifton, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025. Elaine was born and raised in Clifton, where she resided most of her life. Before retirement, she was employed as a Guidance Counselor with the Fort Lee Board of Education in both the High School and Middle School.  Elaine attended Montclair State College and then graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  She earned her master’s degree from Seton Hall University.  Elaine attended Bible Study at the Hawthorne Gospel Church in Hawthorne.  She loved reading and the companionship of her cats. Elaine also enjoyed travelling, particularly to England.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband, William Hayes; her parents, John Bernard Sanford and Marie (nee Steck) Sanford; and two brothers, John and Edward Sanford.

Survivors include: her sister, Joan Sanford and nieces and nephews, Barbara Sanford Ferrick, Laura Sanford, John Sanford and Michael Sanford.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton.  The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at the funeral home followed by the interment at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
