Elaine Schrank, 91, of Passaic, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving grandchildren.
Affectionately known as “Grams” and “Gaga,” Elaine was a radiant presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her simplicity, joyfulness, loving spirit, and truthfulness left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Born on February 19, 1934, in Garfield, NJ, Elaine was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Chintala. She was raised alongside her beloved sister, Doris, and graduated from Garfield High School. In April of 1955, she married the love of her life, Robert Schrank. Together, they made their home in Passaic, where they raised their two children, Robert and Nadine. Over the years, Elaine’s family grew to include three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her heart.
Throughout her remarkable life of over nine decades, Elaine embodied a spirit of optimism and warmth. Even in the face of challenges and loss, she remained a pillar of strength and grace. Her family will always remember her as the heart of the Schrank household—offering kind words, sincere encouragement, and unconditional love. Her resilience and compassion inspired all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Elaine found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved quiet evenings at home watching her favorite television shows, especially Jeopardy, delighting in each question with her sharp and curious mind. A devoted sports fan, she rooted enthusiastically for Tiger Woods and cheered on her beloved New York Mets. Yet, above all, nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—her greatest treasures.
Elaine was the embodiment of selflessness, always putting others before herself. Her thoughtful nature and loving presence brought comfort and joy to family and friends alike. Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched.
Elaine is lovingly survived by her son-in-law, Frank Sanchez; her grandchildren, Kelly Lynn and husband Nickolas, Kyle Sanchez and wife Sarah, and Casey Sanchez and wife Alex; and her great-grandchildren, Logan and Evan Lynn, and Liliana and Sophia Sanchez.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Schrank; her son, Robert Schrank; her daughter, Nadine Sanchez; and her sister, Doris Kwasnik.
