Eleanore (Pavlinik) Chabra

Eleanore Chabra devoted the entirety of her teaching career to educating children with special needs, specifically those with cognitive disabilities. Most of her career was in the Wayne school system where she lived and raised her family.  

Eleanore was born February 19, 1936, to Michael Pavlinik, a textile mill worker and Anna (née Fuziak) a homemaker. She was the eldest of three children. Both her brother and sister have passed, her brother Michael Pavlinik in 2012 and her sister Marion Beck in April this year. 

Eleanore, always a good student, was the first in her family to attend and graduate college after earning a scholarship to Newark Teachers College, now part of Kean University. After her children were grown, she went back to school to get her master’s degree at William Paterson University. 

While still in high school she met the love of her life, and best friend, Stephen Chabra through their church youth group. They were married in 1957. Their love and faith bound them together until his passing in 2009, just 2 years after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. 

Eleanore passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday August 22, 2021. She was at home surrounded by her family receiving hospice care for stage 4 metastatic cancer. Eleanore is survived by her three children, Lawrence (Larry) Chabra, Susan Stevens, Thomas Chabra, and three grandchildren, Nico, Nicole and Andre.

Funeral Liturgy 10:00 am Friday, August 27, 2021 at St. Michael’s Cathedral Chapel, 415 Lackawanna Avenue, Woodland Park. PLEASE MEET AT THE CHAPEL.
