Elizabeth A. “Betty” (nee McCabe) Lockwood, 77 of Woodland Park, NJ passed away surrounded by loved ones on Monday, January 30th, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with Scleroderma and Huntington’s Chorea.
Born in Jersey City, NJ to Margaret Weir and James McCabe, Betty was the eldest of three daughters. She was raised on Chamberlain Avenue in Little Ferry, NJ where she lived for most of her life before moving to the Four Seasons community in Woodland Park in 2012. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trenton State College in 1967. Prior to retiring, she enjoyed a career spanning thirty-three years as a Physical Education Teacher with the Ridgefield Park Board of Education and was a member of the New Jersey Education Association.
Betty had a tremendous zest for life. She loved her family, and never missed an opportunity to celebrate a milestone or attend a function to cheer on her children and granddaughters. She enjoyed carefree days at the beach, reading the newspaper on Sunday mornings, watching mysteries, pampering opportunities at the salon, playing canasta with girlfriends, comfortable shoes, home renovation projects, dining out, and trips to the mall. She was an avid shopper who refreshed her casual wardrobe every season and made certain her young granddaughters were always in matching attire from head to toe. She welcomed all animals brought into her home: dogs, fish, and ferrets. She and her husband became world travelers, having been on more than 50 cruises often with family and/or friends.
Betty is survived by the love of her life, her beloved husband of 53 years, John L. Lockwood, of Woodland Park; by her two loving and devoted children: Lauren Ralicki and her husband, John, of Wayne and John L. Lockwood, Jr. and his wife, Priscilla, of Nutley; two treasured granddaughters: Grace and Julia Ralicki; two dear sisters: Kathleen LaMarco and her husband, Joseph and Christine DeFelice; and by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
