Florence J. (nee Tencza) Kopchak, 93, of Wallington, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 20, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wallington, Mrs. Kopchak was a lifelong resident. She had been employed as a nurse at Beth Israel Hospital in Passaic for many years before retiring to raise her family. In retirement, Mrs. Kopchak worked part-time at Gimbel’s Department Store at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, rooting for the NJ Devils & NY Giants, and never missing the news, would faithfully watch the ABC 7 nightly lineup but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Kopchak was a long-time faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Assumption R.C. Church in Passaic. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wallington Fire Department Company 202. Mrs. Kopchak was also a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols, Assembly #1, Wreath #2 of Passaic and the First Catholic Slovak Union, Branch #746.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John P. Kopchak, Sr. in 1998; two daughters, Gail Bilicska in 2002 and Judith Kopchak in 2018; her son-in-law, Charles Bilicska in 2014; one granddaughter, Cheryl Bilicska; and her siblings and their spouses, Edward Tencza (Josephine), John Tencza (Marian) and Irene Kopec (Henry).
Survivors include: her devoted son, John P. Kopchak, Jr.; five loving grandchildren, Michael Bilicska, Suzanne Bilicska Lauren DeSopo (Robert), Kayla Murry (Joseph) and Tyler Kopchak; and three dear great-grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas DeSopo and Claire Murry.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 24, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 9:00 am from the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. Mary’s Assumption R.C. Church, 63 Monroe Street @ Market Street in Passaic. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wallington Emergency Squad, 178 Maple Avenue, Wallington, NJ 07057.
