Gabriel Karak Obituary

Gabriel Karak, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully entered into eternal rest on the 2nd of August, 2025, in Clifton, New Jersey. Born on December 26, 1927, in Prievidza, Slovakia, to parents Anthony and Pavla (nee Konta) Karak, Gabriel's journey through life was one marked by devotion, hard work, and a profound love for his family and faith.

In his early years, Gabriel's educational journey concluded with his graduation from high school, a foundation that would serve him well in his future endeavors. After moving to the United States in 1947 he put down roots in Buffalo, New York, where he began his career with the Ford Motor Company, he then moved to New York City for a awhile, then to Clifton, NJ where he resided since. It wasn't long before Gabriel discovered his true calling as a Tool & Dye maker, a skill that he honed with precision and pride at Thermo Electric in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. There, he dedicated 40 years of service before retiring in 2001, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and commitment.

Gabriel's life was a testament to his Christian faith, which guided him in every aspect of his existence.

Family was the cornerstone of Gabriel's life. He leaves behind his beloved wife of many years, Livia (nee Ivanovic) Karak, who walked beside him as a partner and confidante. Together, they raised a beautiful family, their two daughters Livia Polanski, along with her husband Roman, and Lorraine Szluka, alongside her husband David and Gabriel’s two sons Ronald and Richard from his previous marriage to Anna Karak (deceased). Gabriel's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Tyler and Ava Szluka, who were the joy of his life. His love for his family was unwavering, and he instilled in them the values of kindness and respect that he held so dear.

Gabriel was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Pavla (nee Konta) Karak, his brother, John Karak, and his sister, Anastasia Turna.


Soccer was one of Gabriel's greatest passions, both playing and as an enthusiastic spectator. The thrill of the game and the camaraderie among players resonated deeply with him, mirroring the teamwork and perseverance he valued in life.

Those who knew Gabriel would describe him as a loving, kind, and gentle soul. respect and admiration of all who had the honor of crossing his path.
 

A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 am at Ss. Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church, Clifton, NJ on Friday August 8, 2025. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.
