Gennaro “Gene” Toma, 83, of Clifton, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Born in Passaic, Mr. Toma was a lifelong resident of Clifton. Before retirement, he was the owner of Sheridan Litho and Commercial Printers of Clifton. More recently, he was employed part-time at Scott Tire in Clifton.
Mr. Toma was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church in Clifton. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed watching the games. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. Gene rarely missed watching his sons and daughter's baseball and softball games and enjoyed attending his grandsons baseball and track meets.
Gene was very handy and could fix anything around the house. He was also a whiz in the kitchen and loved to share his love of cooking with family and friends .
As a first generation Italian American , he worked for his father Ncolo's poultry market in Passaic.
After graduating high school, Gene also proudly served in the Navy as a radar man on board the U.S.S. Northampton from 1955-58.
Survivors include: his beloved wife, Gloria (nee Marconi); three children, Nicholas Toma, Michael Toma and his wife, Nancy and Christine Miragliotta and her husband, Giuseppe; and two grandsons, Anthony and Nick Miragliotta.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be Monday 9:15 am from the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton.
