Georgene “Genie” (nee Borowinski) Tanis, 80, of Haskell passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 6th, 2025.
Born and raised in Passaic, Genie was a graduate of Passaic High School and lived in Paterson for many years before moving to Haskell twenty-eight years ago. Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a Bookkeeper with Coral Dyeing & Finishing Corporation, formerly located in Paterson, throughout her career. She was an avid fan of Jeopardy, known to her family as a fierce contestant as she watched from home, enjoyed playing word games, gardening and swimming. Most important to her and the center of her life though was her family and her grandchildren and time spent with them.
Genie was predeceased by her loved and missed parents, George and Fastyna (nee Milesky) Borowinski as well as by a dearly missed sister, Geraldine Getson.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly sixty years, Joseph Tanis, of Haskell; by her three loving and devoted children: Colleen Grandinetti and her husband, Andre, of Cedar Grove, Joseph Tanis, Jr. of Paterson and David Tanis and his wife, Mirian, of Flanders; three dear siblings: Christine Bartman of Clifton, Roger Borowinski of Wayne and Fastyna Ghirtsos of Clifton; and by her three cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Grandinetti, Jordan Tanis and Zachary Grandinetti.
Memorial Visitation Thursday August 14th from 4-8pm with a Memorial Service to be held during the visitation at 7:00pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton.
