Geraldine Kathryn McGuire, of Wayne, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Monday June 2nd, 2025.
Born and raised in Clifton, Geraldine moved to Wayne in 2010. Geraldine was a graduate of St. John Cathedral High School in Paterson. She then graduated from Montclair State Teachers College (now Montclair State University) with her undergraduate degree and went on to pursue her Graduate Advanced Study Course at New York University. After a long career in which she loved teaching, Geraldine retired in 1991 from Ramapo Regional High School in Franklin Lakes where she taught English and Speech.
Geraldine’s professional memberships include: the Bergen County Education Association, the New Jersey Education Association and the National Education Association.
Geraldine was a member of the Essex Skating Club at South Mountain Arena in West Orange; the Morning Star Zendo of Jersey City; the Clear Mountain Zen Community of Montclair and the New Moon Zendo of Ridgewood. She was also a proud member of the National Association for Teachers of Tai Chi Chih in Albuquerque, NM. Geraldine was one of the first seven teachers trained and qualified to teach Tai Chi Chih in the State of New Jersey. Gerladine taught for about five to seven years until she trained others to replace her.
Geraldine was a former faithful parishioner of St. Brendan R.C. Church in Clifton where she worshipped for many years.
She was predeceased by her mother, Bernadette (nee Fitzpatrick) McGuire; by her father, John McGuire; and by a cousin, Paul Travers.
Survivors include: cousins Judith Dugan, James Travers, Barbara Queenan, Eileen Concannon and Kevin Travers as well as by her loyal friends.
