Gerard R. Paternoster (Jerry), 96, of Woodland Park, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020 due to natural causes. Born and raised in Newark, Jerry lived there for many years. He then resided in Bloomfield for 40 years before moving to the Four Seasons retirement community in Woodland Park. Before his retirement, Jerry was employed as the Officer Manager at New Jersey Tobacco in Newark. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II from 1943 to 1946, including time spent in Germany. Jerry was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Jerry’s entire life revolved around his wife, daughters, and grandchildren who he referred to as “his loves.” They were what he cherished dearly. His happiest times were spent babysitting his grandkids, visiting his children, and celebrating the many holidays and birthdays with his family. His love of life and food will be well remembered.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary (nee Calaminici); two daughters, Elaine DelColle and her husband, Gerard and Debra Ryan and her husband, Jay; five grandchildren, Taylor, Montana, Shannon, Conor and Melanie; and one sister, Louise Suriano. Jerry was predeceased by his brother, Daniel.
