Gloria Marie Jacobson, (nee Bungo) passed away on June 9, 2025, in Ashburn, VA. Born on August 4, 1936, in Passaic, NJ, to Mary and Metro E. Bungo, Gloria grew up in Clifton, NJ, and graduated as the salutatorian of Clifton High School in 1953. In 1956 she married a Lutheran seminary student, Otto W. Jacobson, Jr. In 1965 she received a BA in Biology from Upsala College in East Orange, NJ.
Gloria has been employed as a hospital electrocardiogram technician, engineering department stenographer, personal secretary, and parish secretary. She also supported her husband’s pastoral ministry at Lutheran congregations in Old Tappan, Oakland, and Manahawkin, NJ, serving in the areas of Christian education and worship music. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, and provided piano accompaniment for musical performances at the Ashby Ponds senior living community in Ashburn, VA. Gloria will be remembered for her deep faith in Jesus Christ, welcoming spirit, and love of travel, reading, movies, and music.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents and brother, Raymond Bungo.
She is survived by her loving husband, the Rev. Otto W. Jacobson, Jr., of Ashburn, VA, a daughter, Cheryl L. Mendenhall of Germantown, MD, a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan E. Jacobson and Lori K. Herold-Jacobson of Arlington, VA, and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 from 4-8 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton, NJ 07013. Committal Friday, 10:30 am at East Ridgelawn Cemetery Mausoleum, 255 Main Avenue, Clifton, NJ, 07014. Please Meet at the Cemetery. . Please visit www.bizubquinlan.com to leave condolences or memories on the Tribute Wall section of the obituary. A memorial service in Ashburn,VA, is planned for a later date.
