Harriet Black (nee Czarnecki) DeLuca, 91, of Wayne passed away on June 15, 2022.
Born and raised in Wallington, upon getting married on August 6, 1955 she moved to Clifton and resided there until moving to Wayne on October 22, 1975. Mrs. DeLuca earned her bachelor’s degree in education and business from New Jersey Teacher’s College and was part of the first graduating class from Hobart Hall at William Paterson College. Mrs. DeLuca was certified as a kindergarten-12 teacher. She taught at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and School #13, both in Clifton until her retirement from there in 1964. She then changed careers and became a Full-Charge Bookkeeper for Marino Associates starting in 1981. Subsequently she became a Full-Charge Bookkeeper and Union Specialist for Lazzaro Associates until her retirement at age 89. Mrs. DeLuca also was instrumental in implementing special programs to develop teaching curriculums for developmentally disabled children for the State of New Jersey in the 1970s. She volunteered and served as Secretary for St. Joseph’s Hospital TWIG in Totowa from 1991-1995.
Mrs. DeLuca was predeceased by her husband, Leno DeLuca, who passed away on January 28, 2002 as well as by her brother, Lawrence Elmer Black, in 2012.
She is survived by her loving and deeply devoted daughter, Deborah A. DeLuca, of Wayne, several friends and colleagues, as well as by her four loved “fur-baby” dogs: Buddy, Lulu, Belle and Merlot Lee.
Visiting will be Monday from 4-8pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral Tuesday 9:15am from the funeral home and 10:00am at St. Brendan RC Church, cor. Crooks and Lakeview Avenues, Clifton. Interment to follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson. Memorial contributions to either the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), P.O.
