Honorato Cabrera, age 94, of Parlin, New Jersey passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
Honorato, known to family and friends as Carlos, was born in Loja, Ecuador to Napoleon and Hortensia Cabrera Ludena.
Carlos traveled to Granada, Spain as a young man where he met and married his wife, Carmen Soler Fernandez in 1963.
Carlos and Carmen emigrated to America in 1964 where they discovered the Great Falls of Paterson, NJ and raised their children Lillian (John Rizzuto), Daniel (Liliana Ganoza), Carlos (Jennifer Venditti) and Richard (Christina Arce) in this industrious city they called home.
Carlos was employed by Kalkstein Silk Mills in Paterson, New Jersey as a textile weaver for over 40 years. Through hard work and perseverance, they became American citizens, invested in some real estate properties, and became well-known beloved landlords. They enjoyed their yearly travels to Florida, as well as their vacation home in the Poconos.
Carlos enjoyed quiet activities such as walks and going to the beach. He was also fond of Spanish “novelas” or a good Western. He valued simple pleasures in life such as good food, red wine, telling jokes and being with family. His sweet nature, ready-made smile for everyone and contagious laugh will be dearly missed. He was an amazing husband and father.
Above all, Carlos took great pride in his family including his eight grandchildren. Christopher, Kelly, Michael, Olivia, Isabella, Alex, Daniel, and Evan. He was especially delighted to be a great grandfather to Mason.
Carlos is survived by his wife of 61 years, all his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
All family and friends are invited to the visitation for Carlos which will be held on Tuesday, May 28 from 4pm to 8pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. A Catholic burial will occur on Wednesday, May 29 at 11am at the same location; please gather at the funeral home at 10:30. Interment to follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa.
