Istvan Tamas, 80, of Clifton, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Born in Budapest, Hungary, as an infant, Mr. Tamas and his family fled to Romania during World War II to escape the incoming Fascist regime. He resided in Romania for most of his life before immigrating to the Unites States in 1983. He settled in Clifton where he has lived since. Mr. Tamas was a loyal employee of Arlington Machine and Tools of Clifton where he worked for 40 years as a machinist.
Mr. Tamas was a former long-time member of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Passaic until their closing. He was a member of the Garfield American Hungarian Citizens League and the Hungarian Scouts Association.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stephan and Maria (nee Ferenc) Tamas and his sister, Maria Tamas.
Survivors include: his beloved wife, Emma M. (nee Balazsi); two children, Istvan B. Tamas and his wife, Zsuzsunna Tamas and Judith Tamas-Green and her husband, William Green; and five grandchildren, Istvan Pal Tamas, Attila Laszlo Tamas, Emma D. Tamas-Green, Olivia M. Tamas-Green and Viktoria E. Tamas-Green.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Private cremation to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Uj Magyar Oktatas Hungarian School, c/o 24 Tulp Court, Clifton, NJ 07013.
