James R. Finan, known affectionately as Jimmy to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, at the age of 68 in Clifton, NJ, where he had been a lifelong resident. Born on December 15, 1956, in Paterson, NJ, Jimmy was a man whose kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.
Jimmy is survived by his loving sister, Colleen M. Santee, and her husband, John; his brother, Timothy Finan, and his wife, Barbara; and his nephews, Timothy J. Finan, Brett T. Finan, and Jason R. Finan. He was predeceased by his mother, Jean Marie (nee Archer) Finan, and his father, Robert Edward Finan, both of whom instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion that he carried throughout his life.
He attended St. Andrew the Apostle R. C. Church and Jimmy fondly recalled his days playing CYO Basketball as a youth. His competitive spirit and love for sports were evident to all who knew him. Jimmy's professional life was marked by his dedication as a self-employed General Contractor and Builder. Under the name of Residential Remodelers, he served the Clifton community for many years, leaving a legacy of beautifully crafted homes and grateful homeowners.
Jimmy's generosity extended beyond his professional work. He was an amazing friend, always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was a home repair or offering a listening ear. His skillful hands and helpful nature made him the go-to person in times of need.
An avid golfer, Jimmy could often be found at the Preakness Valley Golf Course in Wayne, where he achieved the remarkable feat of a Hole-in-One. His love for the game was only matched by his passion for raising Golden Retrievers, a breed he adored for their loyalty and gentle disposition.
Those who knew Jimmy will remember him as a kind-hearted and generous man, always ready to help and quick to smile. His handy skills, warm personality, and the joy he brought to others will be deeply missed.
As we bid farewell to Jimmy, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the enduring bonds of friendship and family. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
