James Ruchalski, known to family and friends simply as Jim, passed away on May 21, 2026, in Boynton Beach, Florida, at the age of 79.
Born on October 11, 1946, in Passaic, New Jersey, Jim lived a life marked by devotion to family, steady work, and a warm sense of humor that endeared him to those who knew him best. He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce (nee McGillick) Ruchalski, and a devoted father to his daughters, Karen Ruchalski and Megan Ruchalski, who will forever carry his love and the lessons he imparted. Also survived by his dear friend and companion, Nancy Sporysz of Clifton who sacrificed so much for him. He was also the cherished son of the late Benny and Florence (nee Doremus) Ruchalski. His family was the center of his life, and he carried his love for them with him in all that he did.
Jim grew up in New Jersey where he laid the foundation for the practical, dependable, and hardworking life he would later lead. He resided in Clifton over forty years. He was known throughout his life as a man who could be counted on, someone who approached responsibilities with care and who took pride in doing things the right way. Those who knew him would describe him as loving, funny, and handy, qualities that were reflected not only in his relationships but also in the way he lived each day.
James built a long and respected career as Director of Maintenance at Hoffmann-LaRoche in Nutley, New Jersey. In that role, he was valued for his knowledge, leadership, and ability to solve problems with calm confidence. He took pride in his work and in the trust placed in him by those around him. His career reflected his strong work ethic and his natural ability to keep things running smoothly, and he earned the respect of colleagues through years of dedicated service.
Jim also enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life memorable. He was a Florida snowbird, and he appreciated the change of seasons and the comfort of spending time in Florida. He enjoyed boating and the peace and freedom that came with being on the water. He was a huge Mets fan and followed his team with enthusiasm, loyalty, and the kind of hope that true fans understand. He also enjoyed playing online poker, a pastime that suited his competitive spirit and love of a good challenge. Whether he was spending time with family, enjoying his favorite hobbies, or sharing a laugh, he brought his own special energy to every occasion.
