Janet (Tahaney) Lanteri

Janet Lanteri, of Spring Lake Heights, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025. She was 82.

Born to Elizabeth and Hubert Tahaney, Janet was raised in Nutley. She attended St. Mary’s Grammar School in Nutley and Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair. Janet was married to Thomas Lanteri for 45 wonderful years until he passed away in 2015. They lived in Clifton and raised two daughters, Stacey and Jamie. Janet worked for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance. Co. in Newark for 15 years and then ADP in Clifton for 27 years. In 2004, they retired to the shore.

Janet loved the outdoors, walking, Spring Lake Beach, and the NY Yankees.

She was a giver of advice, organization guru, avid reader, cook extraordinaire, gardener, and a huge fan of Playa Bowls, Hoffman’s, and Applegate’s. Crocheting was a favorite hobby and she created blankets, Christmas stockings and trees, hats, scarves, baby items and other meticulously crafted items. She was an expert photo book, greeting card, and scrapbook designer. 

Surviving are her children Stacey and son-in-law, Jeffrey DeVito of Dumont, Jamie and son-in-law, Mark Hanselman of Wayne; and four adoring grandsons, Thomas and Jack DeVito and Jake and Nicholas Hanselman. She loved her daughters fiercely and adored her son-in-laws. Her four Grandsons were the highlight of her life! She had a special relationship with each one of them, and they will hold onto these memories forever. Also surviving are cherished siblings, her brother Peter Tahaney and sister-in-law, Lynn of Michigan, and her sister Maureen and brother-in-law, the late David Akins of Washington State. She was always so proud of her brother and sister! She loved spending time with her fun Irish cousins, beautiful nieces, nephews, and cherished friends, especially the ladies from “The Neighborhood Club.”  Janet will be dearly missed by all who love her.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 19, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2025 beginning at 12:15 pm at the funeral home, followed by a 1:00 pm Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle R.C. Church, 400 Mt. Prospect Avenue, Clifton. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Villa Marie Claire Hospice, 12 W.
