Jean Yves Evens Fontin, known affectionately as Jean-Yves to his loved ones, was a beacon of light and love in the lives of all who knew him. Born on November 26, 1972, in the vibrant town of Petit-Goave, Haiti, Jean entered into eternal rest on January 17, 2026, at his home in Clifton, New Jersey. His journey on earth was marked by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to his friends and family.
Jean was the cherished son of the late Jean Deland Fontin and Clélie Fontin (born Roney). He grew up surrounded by the love and support of his siblings: Mirette Fontin St Louis, Mickael Fontin, Yves Frantzy Fontin, Nerlande Fontin Brierre, Christine Fontin José, Nadia Fontin, Marie Lesly Fontin, and Sherly Grant. He also received tremendous love and support from his in-laws Serge St-Louis, Marie Claire Fontin (born Dorval), Marie Lourdes Fontin (born Milord), Webert José, Budry Bayard, Eric Anthony Grant and his multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews. Each family member played a unique role in his life, contributing to the man he became.
In his formative years in Haiti, Jean embraced the values of service and community as a Boy Scout. His adventurous spirit and love for learning propelled him to the United States in 1990, where he completed his high school education at Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey. Jean's passion for knowledge led him to pursue higher education, earning an Associate of Science in Computer Science from Bergen Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Ramapo College.
Jean's professional journey was as diverse as it was impactful. He began as a substitute teacher in the Paterson Public Schools, where he inspired countless students from 1997 to 2005. His love for technology and education merged as he managed the Computer Clubhouse, nurturing young minds in the realm of digital literacy. Jean's expertise in technology led him to roles as an Audio-Visual Technician at JP Morgan Chase and a Multimedia Technician at Verizon Communication, Inc. His entrepreneurial spirit shone as an Independent Contractor, where he served as a Network Technician and Computer Consultant. In his final years, Jean dedicated his service to the nation as a TSA Officer at Newark Liberty International Airport, a position he held with honor and pride until 2025.
Above all, Jean found joy in the company of his family and friends. His love for them was everlasting. Jean-Yves left a lasting memory with all who knew him. His presence was a source of joy; his quick wit, availability, and love for food created a space where laughter, comfort, and guidance flowed easily. Jean's legacy is one of humor (the word that best describes him), light-hearted, and kindness.
