Joanne Ortega Obituary

Joanne Ortega passed peacefully on November 1st surrounded by her loving children.  A Brooklyn native, she moved to Paterson at an early age.  While attending East Side High school, she met her husband, Frank, (who passed away in 2014). They enjoyed 56 years of marriage and raised four children.  In their later years they enjoyed European vacations with beloved cousins while residing in Del Ray Beach. After Frank passed, she enjoyed card games, mahjong, and Monday breakfasts with her Florida friends.

A working mom, she labored at Sterns Department Store in the credit department and then spent over fifteen years at Turchette Advertising where she retired as a bookkeeper.

In her later years she resided in Paterson with her youngest son, Frankie.  Joanne loved spending time with her Four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  She enjoyed attending their concerts, plays, dance recitals, and ball games. She was always most proud of their achievements. GG (great grandmother) enjoyed Facetime visits with her great grandchildren Declan and Sophie.

An avid sports fan, she cheered and jeered at the television as she rooted for her Jets and Yanks.  Joanne enjoyed lunches with friends and regularly attended high school reunions, trivia nights, and special events.  She was a movie buff and enjoyed TCM movies and could quote all the classics.

She was predeceased by her mother Josephine (Caracci), father Anthony Amico, and her husband Frank Ortega.  She is survived by her sister, Paula Saccoman; four children:  Anthony Ortega (Karen), Maria Ortega-Murphy (Dennis), Laurie O’Gorman (John), Frank Ortega; grandchildren: Nicole Douglas (Stephen), Daniel Ortega, Anthony Ortega, Kevin O’Gorman, Kaitlyn O’Gorman; great grandchildren: Declan, Sophie Douglas; and numerous godchildren, nieces, and nephews.
