Johanna Luna (Nee Vapnar) 83, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, has peacefully passed away on July 2nd, 2021.
Johanna grew up in Clifton, NJ and graduated Clifton High School in 1956 and was a graduate of William Paterson College. She went on to become a teacher in the Wayne school system, eventually putting her work on hold to raise a family.
Johanna and her husband, Ronald, have been long time residents of Pine Brook, leaving for a brief time to live in Europe when her husband’s job required temporary relocation to Belgium (Waterloo).
Together they enjoyed maintaining a garden at the community center, distributing vegetables to friends, family and the local food bank. In addition, both were volunteers at Pyramid Mountain National Historic Area helping to maintain hiking trails throughout the parks roughly 1700 acres.
Mrs. Luna is predeceased by her parents Mitro and Helen Vapnar, as well as her dear sister Olga Vapnar. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years Ronald, sons Eric and Matthew, daughter-in-law Lisa (McNichol), grandchildren Sean and Cassidy Luna, brother-in-law Dennis Luna and sister-in-law Ann Luna as well as her brothers Michael and her twin brother Joseph and nephew Richard Vapnar.
