John Sokol Obituary

John Robert Sokol, 84, of Clifton passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 19, 2023.

            John was raised in Elmwood Park and had lived in Clifton for the past fifty-five years. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved sharing his immense knowledge, especially regarding chess and fishing, with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Saratoga CV-60 aircraft carrier. He had been employed as an electrician first with the Shulton Corp., formerly located in Clifton, for twenty-three years and then with the Federal Reserve Bank in East Rutherford. He recently kept active with his many senior club activities.

            John was predeceased by his dearly missed parents, John and Helen (née Muransky) Sokol; his two younger siblings: Steven Sokol and his wife Barbara and Eleanor Abate; and by his niece, Kory.

            He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Francine (née Neff) Sokol, of Clifton; three devoted children: John L. Sokol of San Jose, CA, Robert John Sokol of Denver, CO and Erica McGuirk and her husband, Mark, of Livingston, NJ; seven cherished grandchildren: John Arthur and his mother Renee, Will and his mother Anne, Nikola and William and their mother Purnima, Alex Sokol and Liam and Ciara McGuirk; and by his many loved nieces and nephews.

            Private cremation services were arranged through Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton with a private family-only inurnment of ashes to be held at Brigadier General William C.
