John Robert “Bob” Grembowitz, age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26,2026. A lifelong resident of Garfield, Bob lived a full and active life devoted to his family, community, and passions.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 36 years, Caroline (Budsynski) Grembowitz, in 1992, and by his parents, John and Frances (Buczek) Grembowitz.
Bob was a proud graduate of Garfield High School. He went on to build a successful career, serving for many years as General Manager of The Botany Mills Store. He later worked as an apparel buyer for ML Rothschild in New York City, and in his later years, he enjoyed his role as a sales consultant in the men’s suit department at Macy’s in Paramus.
Bob also served his country with honor as a Captain in the Military Police with the Passaic 50th Military Division of the Army National Guard from 1954 to 1963.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bob shared his love of the game by managing the Garfield VFW Babe Ruth team and the Garfield Cubs of the Connie Mack League. He was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan and also cheered faithfully for the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, and Army football. In his later years, he remained active in athletics, playing on numerous senior softball teams and participating in the National Senior Olympics.
Bob’s passion for staying active never faded. Well into his 80s, he enjoyed golf, tennis, basketball, jogging, biking, and regular visits to the gym. He cherished time with his grandchildren, proudly attending their games and supporting them from the sidelines. He also loved the sun and the sea, especially vacations spent at the Jersey Shore and Virginia Beach.
He is survived by his loving sons: Robert and his wife Doreen of Pawleys Island, SC; Bruce and his wife Michelle of Virginia Beach; and John and his wife Nicole of Robbinsville, NJ. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Robert, Brittany Parisen and her husband Ian, Matthew, Jack, and Blake, and by his great-granddaughter, Delilah. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Grembowitz of Garfield.
