Joseph J. Verderese, Sr., 75, of Woodland Park, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023. Born and raised in Newark and Union, Mr. Verderese resided in Clifton for 36 years where he raised his family. More recently, he has been living in Woodland Park. Before his retirement, Mr. Verderese was employed as a manager with Rainbow Caterers in Little Falls. Previous employment was with the Division of Motor Vehicles Inspection Station in Wayne.
Joe served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam war from 1967-1969.
After meeting and marrying Carol and having their two children, Karen and Joe Jr, Joe spent 8 years working full-time while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.
Joe was no doubt, a hard-working, selfless, talented and loving family man with many gifts. He enjoyed watching his children grow and was there for every game, concert and school event even after working 12 hour days. Joe and his family were fortunate enough to own a second home in the Poconos where the family has some of their most treasured memories.
In 1998, Joe received a heart transplant which gave him 25 more years with his family and friends. He was able to see his children marry and was blessed with 5 grandchildren.
As a disabled veteran, it was hard to keep Joe still, he had so much passion and energy for life. He could often be found singing the tunes of Sinatra, doing stage hypnosis or creating and selling jewelry in NYC.
Although he suffered through so much for so long, Joe’s strength, commitment and love for his family kept him going for far longer than anyone could have ever imagined.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank Verderese, Anna Luizza and Grace Verderese.
Survivors include: his wife, Carol (nee Pizzano); his children, Karen Verderese Seiz and her husband, Eric Seiz and Joseph J. Verderese, Jr. and his wife, Kristyn Verderese; five grandchildren, Zoe Seiz, Zackary Eric Seiz, Joseph J. Verderese, III, Giuliana Verderese and Conor Verderese; his siblings, Frank Verderese and his wife, Olimpia, Bill Verderese and his wife, JoAnn and Arlene Verderese; and many nieces and nephews.
