Laura Marchini Obituary

Laura A. Marchini, attorney, activist and protector of children passed on February 2, 2024. Born in New York City, she grew up in Montclair, NJ graduating from Montclair High School.  She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University and a JD from Rutgers School of Law Newark.

While at Rutgers Laura was submissions editor of the Women’s Rights Law Reporter, a Courtroom Advocates Project coordinator, co-chair of the Women’s Law Forum and founded the Take Back the Night Rally and March in Newark.

Her commitment to public service continued in her professional career. She was an attorney with the Children’s Law Center, a litigator for children with New York City Administration for Children’s Services and most recently as Court Attorney at JFC-Kings Family Court. She began her career in the courts of Newark and Jersey City. Her passion in life was protecting children.  Her joy was family, friends, her dogs, horses, cooking, and reading.

A member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Lyndhurst, Laura was an active member of the Social Justice Committee and never failed to volunteer her father for everything. A devout Catholic, she took Mary, the Blessed Virgin, as her confirmation name. 

Laura is survived by her parents Julie Adams and Kenneth Italo Marchini; her Uncles and Aunts Fred and Carol Marchini, Andrew Marchini and Anne Dussaud, Nancy and Robert Peterson, nine cousins and her beloved dogs Hobbs and Jake.

Memorial Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, Feb. 8 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mt.
