Leon Leonovich, 88, of Passaic, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023. Born in Belarus, Mr. Leonovich emigrated to Paraguay at the age of three and resided there for 30 years. It was there that he learned to become an auto mechanic which later allowed him to own his own business. It was also in Paraguay that Leon met his wife, Viera. They came to the United States in 1967 and settled in Passaic where they resided and raised their family. Mr. Leonovich was the owner and operator of Leon’s Auto Repair on Valley Road in Clifton for 40 years. He was a faithful member of the Russian Ukrainian Slavic Evangelical Baptist Church in Passaic.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Viera (nee Ostapchuk) in 2020; his granddaughter, Annabelle; one sister, Nina Jaruczyk; and his parents, Basil and Sofia Leonovich.
Survivors include: his four children, John Leonovich (Oksana); Nancy L. Berkebile (David); Ruth A. Ross (Timothy) and Daniel Leonovich (Marina); his grandchildren, Alexander, Diana, Charles, Emily, Benjamin, Joshua, Christina, Zachary, Aaron and James; his brother, Peter Leonovich; two sisters, Tatiana Telesh and Ana Sieruk.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. A Wake Service will begin at 7:00 pm. The funeral will be held Saturday, May 27th at 10:30 am at the funeral home followed by the interment at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
