Lucille F. (Guccione) Filliman

Lucille Filliman, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, entrepreneur, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17th surrounded by the love of her family. She was born Lucille Francis Guccione on July 1st, 1938, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to Sylvester and Mary Guccione.

Lucille grew up alongside her older sister, Marie Rideout, with whom she shared a close lifelong bond. Known to many as the Guccione sisters, they danced together at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City in their early years and then spent summers at the beach together, even buying houses on the same street. Marie preceded her in death earlier this year.

A resolute student and lifelong believer in the value of education, Lucille graduated from Trenton State College and began her career as a teacher in New Jersey. She first taught in Westfield and later in Little Falls, where she became known for her expertise in English and her devotion to her students. In 1968, Lucille retired from teaching to devote herself fully to raising her children and caring for her family.

In 1962, Lucille married the love of her life, John Filliman. Together they built a home and a life in Little Falls, New Jersey, where she remained for more than fifty years. She had a wide circle of friends from town that meant the world to her, a group that she socialized with often. She was also an avid tennis player and cherished her weekly women’s doubles matches.

Along with her husband, Lucille also had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring destinations around the world, creating cherished memories everywhere she went. But her favorite place was closer to home at the Jersey Shore, and she enjoyed sharing time at the beach house with family and friends.

Never one to stop learning or growing, Lucille began a second career in the late 1980s as an entrepreneur and principal of Fillimerica, Inc., becoming part of the emerging computer software industry at a time of exciting technological change. Her intelligence, determination, and adaptability were admired by all who knew her.

In her final years, Lucille resided at Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains, where she was surrounded by loving caretakers and friends.

Lucille is survived by her son, Thomas Filliman and his wife, Alayna, of Naples, Florida; her daughter, Lisa Walsh and her husband, Marty, of The Villages, Florida; and her cherished grandchildren, Zachary Walsh, Abby Walsh, and Matthew Filliman. She will be remembered for her grace, independent spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 20th at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton from 9:00am-10:15am with opening prayer to then commence at 10:15am followed by funeral mass at 11:00am at St. Michael’s Byzantine Chapel, 415 Lackawanna Avenue in Woodland Park.
