Luis Ruelas Obituary

Luis Armando Ruelas, 87, of Clifton, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025. Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Luis immigrated to the United States in 1979 settling first in Passaic Park.  He has been a Clifton resident since 1982. Luis was a graduate of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico having earned a degree in Electronic Engineering.  His career spanned over 50 years in total, and he was a founding engineer for the first Spanish language television stations in the US. He spent the last 34 years of his career with Univision, retiring in 2013 from the Teaneck location.

One of Luis’ many passions was tennis. He was a member at Tiger Tennis (most recently at the West Caldwell location) for four decades.  He had a private pilot’s license and a motorcycle license. He also loved chess, classical music, and learning new languages.

Luis is survived by his beloved wife, Blanca (nee Mora Stephenson) Ruelas; four children, Luis Ruelas, Deyanira Ruelas, Berenice Ruelas and Susana Tapia, MD and her husband, Oscar; eleven grandchildren, Luis, Fernanda, Valeria, Erick, Annie, Ambar, Jorge Zaid, Larisa, Adan, Carlos, and Luca; and nine great-grandchildren, and scores of other family members and friends who will miss his warmth and humor.
