Born and raised in Maypajo, Caloocan City, Metro Manila in the Philippines, Lydia came to the United States in 1976, initially living in Indiana before settling in New Jersey. She worked hard to provide for her family. Her first job in the U.S. was at Duradex in Passaic. Later for many years, Lydia worked for a New York City jeweler and made beautiful jewelry with cultured and freshwater pearls and semi-precious stones. In her last years toward retirement, she was a medical billing assistant and found joy in her work chatting with patients and colleagues. During retirement, she enjoyed her family and would often have family brunches at her apartment on Saturdays. She was a wonderful cook and loved feeding her big family all the wonderful Filipino dishes.
Lydia loved arts and crafts, especially making jewelry, crocheting, and sewing. She also spent a lot of time working on crossword puzzles and playing games on her iPad. Amongst many interests, Lydia was an avid Elvis fan and loved listening to his music and watching his movies.
Lydia was a generous and compassionate person who always made time to help others in need. She will be deeply missed. May she rest in peace.
