Maria J. (Alvarez) Hernandez

Maria J. Hernandez, 87, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away February 10, 2024. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Mrs. Hernandez came to the United States in 1968 and settled in Passaic. She resided there before moving to Florida in 2006. She had been employed at Cardinal Bag and Envelope Co. in Saddle Brook for 27 years before retiring.

Mrs. Hernandez had been a member of Club 15 in Tampa, FL; Club Civico Cubano; Marti Maceo; and the Safety Harbor Senior Citizen Recreation Center. She loved to travel, especially cruising with her family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jose A. Hernandez in 2004; her brother, Rafael Alvarez; and three sisters, Marta, Dora and Pilar.

Survivors include: her daughter, Miriam Hernandez-Laria and her husband, James; her son, Joe Hernandez and his wife, Margarita; her granddaughter, Krystina (Laria) Restaino and her husband, Matthew; two great-grandsons, who she adored, Matty and Luca Restaino; one sister, Lidia Alvarez; her sister-in-law, Maria Rodriguez and her husband, Delfin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 19, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024 at 9:15 am from the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. John Kanty R.C. Church, 49 Speer Avenue, Clifton. Entombment to follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
