Martin Tell Obituary

Tell, Martin T., age 82

Loving and devoted husband to Dorathea (nee Baker) for 59 years.

Martin died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness on March 16, 2021. He was a man whose family and family values were paramount. He was predeceased by his father, Martin Tell.

Martin is survived by his mother, Mary Tell (nee Kiss), brother Richard Tell and his lifelong partner Darinda Norris.  He also leaves three loving and respectful sons, Martin (Jenny) Tell, Eric (Joan) Tell and Gregory (Stephanie) Tell.

Cherished and dedicated grandfather to Katharine, Julia, Alexander, Andrew, Nicholas, Emma and Charlie.

Marty was born at sea on the USS Columbus on the journey from Hungary to America.  He grew up in Clifton, New Jersey in the Hungarian section he knew well and loved.  Hard work, family values and love of the New York Giants were the touchstones in this life.

Martin received a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and his MBA in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He started his accounting career at Coopers & Lybrand.  His business acumen eventually led him to senior positions as Chief Financial Officer of Scholastic Books and J.J.I. Industries, before retiring to Long Beach Island, NJ in 2001.

Marty loved to travel.  He and Dottie briefly lived in Switzerland, and he visited many countries for work and pleasure.  He loved good food, long walks, and above all, being with family.  We will miss Big Mart very dearly
