Mary E. (Hemmings) Pohts

Mary E. (nee Hemmings) Pohts, 95, of Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, formerly of Garfield, passed away on October 2, 2021.  Born in Monongahela, PA., she was the third of 16 children, where she resided until moving to Passaic, New Jersey.  She worked in Mid-Atlantic Bank (formerly New Jersey Bank, now PNC Bank) where she retired as a Trust Officer. 

Mrs. Pohts was an active, long-term member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clifton.

Mary enjoyed being with family and baking.  There were always delicious goodies for holidays and when visiting her.  After moving to Cedar Crest she adopted puzzle books and Bingo.

She is predeceased by her husband, William R. Pohts, Sr., her parents, John and Mary (nee Herrington) Hemmings, nine brother’s, John, Dave, Herb, Harold “Boots”, Donald, George “Hambone”, Richard “Skip”, Paul and Robbie “Bob”, and one sister, Shirley Seighman.

Survivors include:  her son William Pohts Jr. and his wife Teresa of Maywood, NJ and her daughter Peggy Penwarden and her husband Walter of Punta Gorda, FL, and her four loving grandchildren, Chris Pohts and his wife Caren of Hewitt, NJ, John Pohts of Maywood, NJ, Brittany Cain and her husband Jason of Monongahela, PA, and Jared Pohts of Maywood, NJ.  She is also survived by her siblings Lee Hemmings of Monongahela, PA, Alice Ingram of Monongahela, PA, Ruth Ann MacDougall and her husband Butch of Cleveland, OH, Carol Lee of Hudson, FL, and Donna Pocky and her husband John of Charleroi, PA. 

Private funeral services will be held at East Ridgelawn Cemetery in the Chapel.  There will be no viewing.
