Michael Smith Obituary

Michael W. Smith, 73, of Clifton passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024 after a brief illness.

Born in South Amboy, Mr. Smith was raised in Laurence Harbor and had lived in Little Falls before moving to Clifton in 1989. He had been employed with The Little Sisters of the Poor in Totowa as a Maintenance Supervisor of the home for the past fifty years, he was devoted to the residents of the home for which he served. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War-era and was a dedicated member of American Legion Post 227 in Totowa. He had an equal passion for both reading and writing poetry, he was a man of thoughtful words and a poet’s pen, but without question, conniving with his beloved granddaughter was his favorite pastime.

Mr. Smith was predeceased by his loved and missed father, Curtis C. Smith as well as by his dear brother, Curtis C. Smith.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda J. (nee Marinelli) Smith, of Clifton; his two loving and devoted children: Ken Smith and his wife, Annette, of Paterson and Kate Finkelstein and her husband, Keith, of Clifton; his loved mother, Michaelina (nee Cunningham) Smith, of Manchester, NJ; two dear sisters: Kathleen Shave and her husband, George, of Tinton Falls and Barbara Smith of Edison; and his adored granddaughter, Mikayla Finkelstein, to whom he was her cherished “Pop-Pop”.

Visiting will be Saturday from 1:00pm-4:30pm with a funeral service to then follow at 4:30pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton.
