Monica Joseph, 87, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, in Providence, Rhode Island. Monica was born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago by her parents, James and Doris Williams. She held a deep love for her beautiful island and cherished spending weekends with her children at Carenage Beach. She also delighted in selling little snacks and candies to passing schoolchildren from her parlor (bodega).
In the 1990s, Monica moved to the United States, settling in Queens, New York. Here, she discovered her calling in helping others and worked as a Certified Nurses' Assistant at the Wavecrest Assisted Living in Queens. During her leisure time, she enjoyed testing her luck at the casino and embarking on cruises.
Upon retiring, Monica and her husband, Lennox, relocated from Far Rockaway, Queens, to Providence, Rhode Island, where she became a devoted member of the United Baptist Church. One of her cherished traditions (which started at Wavecrest) was celebrating her birthday with a pizza party, which she continued when she moved but now inviting her neighbors to join her on the porch for pizza and of course, liming.
Monica is survived by her loving husband, Lennox Joseph, and her five devoted children: Ann Marie Williams, Lelan Dale St. John (and his wife, Gale Ann St. John), Kirk Douglas (and his wife, Beverly Douglas), Nadine Joseph, and Nadia Francis (and her husband, Junior Francis). She is also survived by her siblings: Franklin Williams, Horace Williams, Terry Harris, and Glenford Williams. Her memory lives on through her numerous grandchildren: Shervon James, Sherwin James, Phillip St. John, Janelle St. John, Danielle St. John, Jonathan St. John, Shalom Soto-St. John, Amelia Soto-St. John, Ariella Soto-St. John, Desiree Cooper (and her husband, Ashton), Tyra Douglas, D’aundre Thompson, Vashawn Thompson, Rayonna Thompson, Jaedon Wiggins, and Janiya Francis. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Ansen Alexander, Ania Alexander, Sophia Mollock, Alexandria St. John, Analeigha St. John, Raiyn Wiggins, and Angelo Wiggins.
Monica's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her many family members and friends, who will deeply miss her presence in their lives.
