Mykola Mohuchy, MD, 56, of Redondo Beach, CA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 26, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mykola- affectionately known as Myk, Mick or Mickey- was raised in Nutley, NJ. He graduated from Montclair Kimberley Academy, where he cultivated a love of basketball, lacrosse, water polo and swimming. He continued his water sports at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, excelling on the water polo and swim teams.
After spending a year in Spain playing water polo and teaching English, he returned to embark on his journey into the medical field. After medical school, he began radiology residency in NYC, where he met the love of his life, Gretchen Lent, MD. Mick completed specialty training in Body Imaging and later in Neuro Imaging and Neuro-Interventional Radiology.
Mick and Gretchen married in 2004 and moved to California in 2007. They were fortunate to live near the ocean and spent countless hours at the beach with their four adored children. Mick loved to play piano and compose songs, but his greatest role was being a father. He coached his children’s basketball, soccer and baseball teams. When he was no longer able to attend the games, would loudly cheer at the videos of the sports, recitals and ceremonies recorded on Gretchen’s smart phone.
Mick was diagnosed with appendix cancer in early 2021 and bravely endured the testing and treatment provided by his medical teams throughout southern California.
He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Karen Lent.
Survivors include: his beloved wife, Gretchen Lent, MD; his four cherished children, Chiara, Bohdan, Maksym and Merrick; his devoted parents, Wolodymyr and Soriana Mohuchy; his loving sisters, Tamara Mohuchy-Collins, MD and Sophia Mohuchy; two nephews, Nicholas and Alec Collins, Uncle Jack Cannon, MD and Aunt Tamara Cannon, and his father-in-law, Keith Lent.
