Noeline was born in Paterson, NJ to Thomas Holmes and Ethel (nee) Fitzpatrick on December 7, 1948. She had one older sibling, Sheila. She attended St. Brendan’s grammar school, De Paul High School and Caldwell College where she earned a BA degree in Education. She worked for the Paterson Board of Education, Manchester High School and Leonia High School. She enjoyed teaching business practices and was the first teacher to teach remote classes. This experiment gave her great joy as she was connected to two classes at once and it challenged her to figure out how to be effective for both groups. This was an innovated experiment for its time. During her teaching career she enjoyed chaperoning on class trips to other countries and most especially the annual Prom. Her students were grateful for her advice on manners and ways to behave in a formal setting.
Noeline volunteered at Oasis in Paterson, a program designed to help women and children escape poverty by teaching young mothers business skills. Noeline enjoyed reading, needlepoint and interior decorating. She took great pleasure spending time at beach with her dear friend Janet (Mini) and her daughter Sara and family in Long Beach Island during the summer months. Christmas was a particularly joyful time of year for her and she loved selecting gifts that were just right for each person most especially the children. She started shopping early and researched each gift to be sure it was safe and just right.
She loved to lead the family in singing Christmas carols and her favorite was an old Irish Folk song entitled, Knocking at the Window!
Noeline enjoyed cooking and experimented with various recipes and had a collection of all of Ina Garten’s cookbooks. She loved to prepare dishes for family pot luck dinners and picnics. Noeline had many friends and enjoyed spending time on trips and outings with them. She was seen regularly at the gym where she took classes and participated in regular exercises programs.
She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Sheila and survived by several cousins, Jack Fitzpatrick, Michael Fitzpatrick, Gerri Harold, Thomas Gallagher, Mary Corcorin, and Gail Fitzpatrick-Hopler along with their spouses and children and many cherished friends.
