In Loving Memory of Richard J. Parkinson
June 2, 1953 – September 21, 2025
Richard J. Parkinson, 72, of Barryville, NY, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, after a long illness. Known affectionately to many as “Uncle Rich” or “Parky,” Richard brought joy, music, and laughter to the lives of all who knew him.
Born in Bayonne, NJ on June 2, 1953, Richard was the beloved son of the late William and Betty Parkinson. He was raised in Clifton, NJ, where he graduated from Clifton High School in 1971 before going on to attend the University of Arizona. He lived for many years in Tucson, Arizona, a place he always held dear, before returning to New Jersey and eventually settling in the beautiful surroundings of Barryville, NY.
Richard spent his career in the insurance industry, where he developed a niche in insuring fine art. He was a true connoisseur of creativity, both professionally and personally.
An avid hiker and golfer, Richard found peace and joy in the scenic outdoors of Barryville. He especially loved his home there—particularly the fire pit he proudly designed and built 15 years ago, a gathering place for many treasured memories with friends. His cats, Jody and Floyd, were his loyal companions and a great source of comfort and amusement.
Music was Richard’s heartbeat. A gifted guitarist, he shared his talent generously—performing regularly at Back to Bakers and frequently hosting jam sessions with friends. Whether in Barryville or back in Clifton, Richard's music brought people together and lifted spirits. He truly marched to his own tune, and that’s exactly why he was so deeply loved.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, William and Betty Parkinson, and his beloved brother Bill. He is survived by his brother Patrick Parkinson, sisters-in-law Claire Parkinson and Jane Parkinson, nephews Brian, Scott, and Kyle Parkinson, and nieces Kristin McInerney, Courtney Shattenkirk, and Kacey Semchenko. His circle of friends was wide and devoted—because to know Richard was to have a lifelong friend.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home in Clifton, NJ, with a Memorial Service starting at 2:00 p.m.
