Richard C. Moran Obituary

Richard Charles Moran, known fondly to family and friends as Dick Moran, and who served as Municipal Clerk of the City of Clifton, NJ from the 1990’s to approximately 2008, passed away in his sleep on January 9, 2025.    Richard was being treated for a long-term illness.   Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Roberta Moran, his son David Moran (wife Ashley Moran), his son Richard Michael “Mike” Moran of Manhattan (husband Jeffrey Gates), and four wonderful grandchildren, Skyler, Katie, Kyle, and Kasey.    Dick’s parents, Louis Edward Moran and Anne Moran, as well as his four brothers and sisters Edward, Donald, Jack, and Lois Moran predeceased him.

Dick Moran, who was 85 years old at the time of his passing, was born in Clifton in March 1939, and graduated Clifton High School class of 1957.  Dick loved people and sports, and was a member of the Clifton Fighting Mustang Football and Baseball teams in High School.    Dick was a lifelong Clifton resident, was very proud of Clifton, and enjoyed deep relationships with many in the community.   Among Dick’s lifetime circle of friends, included the men who were his teammates on the Mustang Football team, who all stayed lifelong friends.   Dick was also well-known around Clifton City Hall and his keen insights and his smiling face could be frequently observed on public access cable TV during the televised Clifton City Council Meetings.   Dick really loved all that Clifton had to offer.

After graduating from Clifton High School, Dick graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Bonaventure, NY with a BS in Accounting.    Dick also proudly served in the US Army and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone for most of his service time, as a radio operator.    Dick pursued a career in Accounting, Finance, and Management, starting his career at the esteemed public accounting firm, Price Waterhouse.     Dick was later the Comptroller of the renowned decorative fabric company, Brunschwig & Fils, and also held several other finance and accounting roles before joining the City of Clifton as Municipal Clerk in the early 1990’s.

Dick, Roberta and their two sons, enjoyed lots of special family time, with hobbies such as sports, skiing, beach time at the Jersey Shore, sailing, and music.  Dick was a gifted guitar player and singer who led a band called the ‘Bleeker Street Three’ in the 1960’s before and after college, and for decades informally entertained family and friends with his expert guitar skills and distinctive singing voice – Gordon Lightfoot was one of his musical idols.     Dick was an active community volunteer, eagerly devoting his time outside of work to help coach his sons’ athletic teams and well as being a ready volunteer for his sons’ Boy Scout troop.

Dick has touched many people’s lives during his lifetime and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.     Memorial Visitation Tuesday January 28th from 4-8pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton.
